Passport and
Visa
All foreign visitors desiring to
enter Japan must have a valid passport. Participants from
countries requiring visas should apply to the Japanese consular
offices or diplomatic mission in their countries. For details,
please consult your travel agent or the nearest Japanese
consulate. Conference can send you a letter of invitation to the
visa applicants. Send a request email to
yosimi(atmark)sic.shibaura-it.ac.jp.
Insurance
The organizer cannot accept
responsibility for accidents which may occur. Participants are
encouraged to obtain travel insurance (medial, personal accident
and luggager) in their home country prior to departure.
Climate
The weather in Tokyo in
November to December is becoming cold with the following
temperatures:
Normal High: 16 ¡ÆC (November) to 12 ¡ÆC (December)
Normal Low: 9¡ÆC (November) to 5 ¡ÆC (December)
Currency
Exchange
Only Japanese Yen are
acceptable at regular stores and restaurants. The exchange rate
fluctuates daily. Foreign currency exchange is available at the
leading banks on presentation of your passport. Bank business
hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tokyo
International Forum is in the Tokyo central business district and
there are numerous banks within walking distance of the conference
hall. You can find the current exchange rates on the Internet.
Traveler's
Checks and Credit Cards
Credit cards, including
MasterCard¢ç, Diners Club¢ç, Visa¢ç and American Express¢ç are
accepted at most hotels, restaurants, department stores, and some
taxis. Traveler's checks are accepted only by leading banks and
major hotels in principal cities.
Tipping
Standards
In Japan, tipping is not
necessary, even at hotels and restaurants.
Electricity
Electricity throughout
in Tokyo is 100V, 50 Hz.
Shopping
Business hours for
retail soter, including the department stores, differ from a store
to a store but most operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and are open
on Sundays and national holidays.
Cellular
Phones, Pagers and Watch Alarms
As a courtesy to our
speakers and other attendees, please turn off any cellular phones,
pagers and watch alarms during sessions.
