About YABEC
YABEC, Young Asian Biochemical Engineers’ Community, is originally an international organization whose members are young biochemical engineering professionals and scholars from Asian regions including China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan. The YABEC symposium has offered biochemical engineers the opportunity to present their latest results in research and exchange ideas in all aspects of biochemical engineering.
It had envisaged the creation of a young Asian biochemical engineers’ community, now called as YABEC, in the Asian-Pacific Biochemical Engineers’ Conference (APBioChEC) held in Singapore, 1994, by voluntary young researchers attending from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. It realized next year in Seoul National University, Korea, June 1995, and 73 participants from above four regions came together in Hoam Faculty House and enjoyed keynote lectures, research presentations and deep discussion. During spending same time in a whole day the participants had a lot of chance of communication together and deepened their friendship. Since this first meeting, it is our proud that YABEC symposium has continued without interruption and held traditionally in “camp” style.
The founder members and their friends had gotten older and these days they playfully call themselves as OABEC, which means Old Asian Biochemical Engineers’ Community. They are over 50 years old but still have young spirits (in a certain sense sometimes younger than us!). Thus, YABEC decided to welcome them to our community with expecting a small amount of extra charge.
YABEC is now open for new young researchers active in the field of biotechnology and bioprocess engineering under the umbrella of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB). Of course, we welcome seniors with young spirits. If you are interested in YABEC, please join and enjoy the liberal and friendly atmosphere of the YABEC symposium.
