● Highlights of sightseeing spots

Matsue Castle (Tour A, B, and D)

Matsue Castle, completed in 1611 and one of Japan’s few remaining original castles—commonly known as the “Black Castle” due to its dark wooden exterior—is a must‑see in November, when autumn foliage paints the grounds in vibrant reds and golds. Climb to the top of the tenshu (keep) for panoramic views of the city and Lake Shinji. After touring the castle, enjoy a relaxing Horikawa River cruise, gliding past moats, willow-lined banks, and historic landmarks—a lovely complement to the autumnal scenery.

Izumo Taisha Shrine (Tour A and B)

Izumo Taisha is one of Japan’s oldest and most important Shinto shrines, dedicated to Ōkuninushi, the deity of relationships and good fortune. It is especially revered as a sacred site where all the Shinto gods are said to gather in October (by the lunar calendar). In November, the shrine’s majestic architecture, massive shimenawa (sacred straw rope), and the serene cedar-lined paths are complemented by the crisp autumn air and vibrant foliage, making it an ideal time for a reflective visit.

Shimane Winery (Tour B)

Shimane Winery is a local winery located near Izumo Taisha, known for its selection of Japanese wines made from locally grown grapes. While we will not join the factory tour, visitors can enjoy a relaxing lunch at the on-site restaurant and explore the gift shop, which offers a variety of wine products, grape juices, and local specialties—perfect for souvenirs.

Adachi Museum of Art (Tour C)

Adachi Museum of Art is renowned for its stunning Japanese gardens, which have been ranked among the best in Japan for many years. In addition to the gardens, the museum houses a remarkable collection of modern Japanese paintings, including works by Yokoyama Taikan. In November, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking autumn foliage that beautifully complements the meticulously maintained landscapes. You will have free time to explore the gardens and artworks at your own pace.

Sakaiminato (Tour C)

Sakaiminato is a charming port city located on the Sea of Japan, famous for its bustling fish market and as the hometown of the beloved manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. Visitors can stroll along the waterfront, where fresh seafood stalls offer local delights like sushi and crab. The city also features the Mizuki Shigeru Road, a Street lined with bronze statues of yokai (Japanese supernatural creatures) from the artist’s works, as well as the Mizuki Shigeru Museum. Sakaiminato offers a delightful blend of coastal scenery, culinary experiences, and cultural homage—perfect for a brief visit.

Chiyomusubi Sake Brewery (Tour C)

Chiyomusubi Sake Brewery is a historic brewery founded in 1865 in Sakaiminato. Using locally grown sake rice such as “Goriki” and “Yamada Nishiki,” along with pristine natural spring water, the brewery continues to produce high-quality sake using traditional methods. You can enjoy a guided brewery tour, which provides insight into the sake brewing process and includes a tasting session. After the tour, you can explore the gift shop offering a wide selection of sake, fruit liqueurs, craft gin, whisky, and local specialties—perfect for souvenirs.
